Atlas Research Announces Free Webinar for Caregivers of Female Veterans

July 22, 2015

Are you caring for a Female Service Member or Veteran? Atlas Research, Easter Seals Dixon Center, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, and partners will host a free webinar entitled, A Caregiver’s Guide to Unique Therapy Techniques for Women Veterans, on July 30th at 2:00 PM EST.

Women Veterans represent one of the fastest growing segments of the Veteran population. There are 360,000 Women Veterans currently utilizing U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical services, with 280,000 having served in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn (OND).

Servicewomen, like men, are returning with severe shrapnel wounds and with limbs mangled and severed by bombs. However, they also have health care needs unique to their gender: reproductive issues, difficulty returning to roles as wives or mothers after long deployments, and ongoing struggles with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), not just from exposure to combat, but also from military sexual assault.

Caregivers face unique challenges when caring for Women Veterans who have gender-specific needs; this is combined with the often complicated medical and mental conditions of their charges to receiving limited support from all corners of society.

The webinar will be led by Dr. Alicia Rossiter, DNP, ARNP, PNP-BC, FNP, FAANP, a widely-respected expert and advocate for Women Veterans. It will cover the challenges caregivers of Women Veterans face, review available resources and will discuss emerging new therapy options.

Dr. Rossiter will be joined by Michelle Steffanelli of the VA Caregiver Support Staff and a Caregiver telling their own story.

This webinar is the latest in the Easter Seals Dixon Center Military Caregiver Webinar Series, which have collectively reached over 689 participants.
